The clown is often one of the first elements of laughing in our life. They are the first to come to us "to make us laugh": either in the world of the circus or by means of the television. Who knows, maybe this is the reason why they, besides nostalgia, excite such a strange and confusing feeling of affection...

Then, generally, the clown is a big challenge for the actor: for that simple fact that the actor wearing the costume of a clown just has to make people laugh, because of the way he is dressed and made up. And making people laugh is not that easy (as the great comics always repeat).

The Teatro Due Mondi approached the circus already in 1985/86 and has since then, with big respect, measured its theatrical work with the extraordinary professionality of those clowns that has passed through and contributed to the creation of the world of the circus. For the actors the performance. Wonderful clowns is the natural continuation of those first, happy experiences; but it also includes various new elements given by the presence of two new actors, who play the parts of musicians.

The performance is a kind of anthology of the classical clown-repertoire. The two clowns who alternate and confront each other on the stage are - against their will - joined by two "serious" musicians who would like to offer their musical art to the audience, but instead find themselves involved in the common amusement.

The structure of the performance is simple. The clowns arrive: Birillo plays the trumpet and makes quick-change gags. René trains fleas and does boxing, the music gets lauder and we are all clapping our hands.

Maybe then memories return back to us, or maybe things we never saw will appear. Cruel jokes become tender games, and laughters, and become somersaults.. Musicians and acrobats, comics and poets, a world has been uncovered: it was hidden within big shoes and fake noses.

How the clowns are wonderful!
